Frequently Asked Hair Transplant Questions

A hair transplant procedure takes your own hair follicles from the back and sides of your head and transplants them to the desired area of thinning or balding.
For many patients considering a hair transplant procedure, the costs of a FUE or FUT can be overwhelming. At Hair Restoration Centers, we pride ourselves in offering low-cost, hair transplant procedures starting as low as $3.75 per graft. With over 100,000 hair transplant surgeries performed over our twenty years in the industry, our team wants you to not only be happy with your results but the price as well.
Depending on your medical condition, our surgeons can generally help you with your hair loss concerns. However, it is important to make your Patient Advisor aware of any medical concerns prior to booking your procedure and meeting with the surgeon.
Most of our patients only require a single hair transplant procedure. There are, however, some cases that may require additional procedures to achieve the desired goal the patient is looking for depending on the degree of hair loss and patient expectations.

The FUT Strip procedure will leave a linear scar on the back of the head. Any scarring as a result of FUT is virtually undetectable. The donor area is covered by your own existing hair. The FUE procedure will leave no scarring.

Local anesthesia is administered prior to the procedure, resulting in no pain being felt by the patient. The surgeon may provide medication to use after the procedure, if needed. Most patients find the medication post-procedure not necessary and any discomfort minimal.

Using nature’s own building blocks for hair transplantation with follicular unit transplantation, the results are very reliable and natural looking for life. There are situations, however, where the hairs can be lost later in life due to other circumstances such as ageing or other medical reasons.

Follicular units” of hair from your scalp are placed into tiny incisions in the desired brow pattern. Care is taken to place the hairs with precision; so, they grow in the correct direction and at the same angle as the surrounding hair. The aesthetics of defining an arch that will complement your facial structure and features naturally, requires both surgical and artistic expertise.

Grafts, also known as “follicular units”, are tiny bundles of hairs which consist of anywhere between one and four hair follicles.
In order to ensure you achieve the greatest results from your procedure, it is important to establish that you are a good candidate for a hair transplant.  Our patient advisors need to understand what your goals and expectations are, to ensure they are achievable by our surgeons and within your budget.

Our patients who have realistic expectations and goals are overall more satisfied with their results.  It is important to discuss your expectations with your surgeon; so, they may explain the different techniques and what procedure would fit your needs the best.

After a few days, the newly transplanted grafts will blend in with the existing hair.

During the first 1 to 3 weeks, new hairs will appear to be growing quickly, with new hair growth starting within 2 to 4 months of your procedure.  Hair growth occurs in natural cycles, with each cycle starting a few days or weeks from the previous cycle.

By 6 months post-procedure, most people can see the effect of the natural growing process.  By 12 months, the bulk of the hair will have reached 90% of its total growth. Your hair can continue to mature for as long as another 24 months following surgery.

The number of grafts being placed will predict how long the procedure will take. Small sessions of up to 1,500 grafts can take close to 3-4 hours. Medium sessions of 1,500 to 3,000 grafts can take 4 to 6 hours and larger procedures of 3,000+ can take 6+ hours.
After 6 months, a second hair transplant procedure can be scheduled. However, most patients will wait 1 year after their procedure to see full growth from the previous transplant to confirm the results before scheduling another procedure.

A hair transplant provides you with new hair in the balding area of the scalp, surrounded by existing hairs. However, it cannot prevent loss of existing hair. Other options are available to prevent hair loss that you should speak to your Patient Advisor about.

The FUT hair transplant method, also known as a follicular unit transplantation or ‘strip method’, is the removal of a strip of skin from the donor area, usually at the back of the head. This strip is divided by the surgical staff into individual follicular units under a microscope.  These follicular units are then re-inserted into the recipient area.

FUE is commonly used as an alternative to FUT, when the scalp may be too tight for a strip excision.   The FUE method also allows the surgeon to harvest the finer hair from the nape of the neck.  These hair grafts are frequently used around the frontal hairline or even for a facial hair transplant, usually the eyebrows.

Both FUE and FUT present their own set of advantages and disadvantages. The best method for each individual depends on your personal requirements and expectations.  .To answer this question we request that you submit an inquiry and we’ll contact you with our recommendations.
