Is a hair transplant procedure right for you?

Over the years, our industry has adopted a standard classification of genetic pattern hair loss to measure the extent of hair loss in men, known as the Norwood Scale.  We used this scale to assess whether you are a candidate for a hair transplant procedure and to provide you with a quote for your procedure.

Norwood’s Classification of Male Pattern Alopecia

FUE Hair Transplant - Norwood Male Pattern Hair Loss

Class 2 & 2A
Norwood Male Pattern Hairloss

Most men will be affected by some stage of hair loss in their lifetime. The first “Classes” of hair loss are represented at left. The first image is an example of a “widow’s peak.” This is when the hairline starts to recede above the temples. In the second image is an example of when the hairline starts to recede farther back from the front. Some of our clients at this stage of hair loss notice that the hair on the back of the head is becoming thinner. This is due to the hair follicles becoming weaker and falling out over time.

Class 3, 3A & 3V
Norwood Male Pattern Hairloss

In Norwood Scale Class 3 (includes 3 Anterior, 3 Vertex) of this chart, men notice a more recession of their hairline at the temples, as well as a progression of loss from the forehead. Hair loss is also starting to become significant on the crown or vertex (bottom image). See our Before/After Hair Transplant Gallery to see an HRC patient with similar hair loss who was treated.

Class 4 & 4A
Norwood Male Pattern Hairloss

In class 4 and 4A (anterior), hair loss may be more noticeable on the crown.  However, for some patients, they may have only significant loss from above the temples and frontal anterior area (bottom photo). See our Before/After Hair Transplant Gallery to see an HRC patient with similar hair loss who was treated.

Class 5, 5A & 5V
Norwood Male Pattern Hairloss

By Class 5, 5A (anterior, middle) and 5V (vertex, bottom), hair loss is approaching significant levels, with most of it disappearing on the top of the vertex and crown. For patients as this stage of loss, more hair grafts will be needed to provide both coverage and density in order to achieve desired results.
